Back pain, whether chronic or acute, can stem from various sources, such as slips, falls, accidents, overexertion, or degenerative diseases. Fortunately, a chiropractor near you can be your ally in addressing and alleviating these issues effectively, offering personalized treatments to target the root causes of your pain.

What to Expect

The initial step in your chiropractic journey involves a thorough examination and consultation with our chiropractor. During this process, the doctor will gather crucial information about your chronic or acute back pain, taking into account your medical history. To gain a comprehensive understanding of your musculoskeletal system, a full set of x-rays will be conducted.

With a clear picture of any known or unknown issues, the chiropractor can then devise a customized treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. Typically, your first adjustment will be administered after the consultation, initiating the path to recovery. This initial adjustment often provides immediate relief, reducing pain, tension, and stiffness.

Maintaining Your Health

Over the subsequent weeks, the chiropractor will schedule regular sessions to address your condition continually. Periodic reevaluations will allow the doctor to assess your progress. As improvement occurs, adjustments may be less frequent, and the treatment approach may be adjusted or expanded to ensure a well-rounded and effective strategy for long-term relief.

If you are eager to learn more about chiropractic care and effective ways to reduce back pain, don't hesitate to reach out to us. Contact our office to schedule a consultation, a physical exam, and an adjustment. Our knowledgeable office staff can address any questions or concerns you may have about the treatment process, including details about availability, accepted insurance, payment methods, and new patient protocols.

Chronic Pain & Illness

While it may sound strange, the sensation of pain serves a very important purpose. Without pain, you might seriously hurt yourself without knowing it, or you might not realize you have a medical problem that needs treatment. Once the problem has been taken care of, pain usually goes away. However, occasionally pain goes on for weeks, months, or even years becoming nagging and annoying, perhaps even seriously affecting one's quality of life. This type of ongoing discomfort is called chronic pain. Sometimes chronic pain is due to an ongoing illness or disease process such as cancer or arthritis. Other times the cause is unknown.

A cross-sectional study of the prevalence of chronic pain in the US published in the November 2010 Journal of Pain, suggests a considerable burden of chronic pain in US adults. Chronic pain was indicated by about a third of the population and was correlated with indicators of poorer socioeconomic status. Primary chronic pain was most commonly attributed to lower back pain, followed by osteoarthritis pain. Chronic pain is a national epidemic, and is classified by our healthcare system as one of the most difficult human conditions to successfully treat.

Chronic pain describes long-term pain, and is usually defined as lasting for longer than 12 weeks. The condition affects people in different ways and can vary in frequency from pain that comes and goes (random or episodic pain), to continuous pain (intractable pain). Chronic pain also varies in intensity, and may be mild to moderate, or severe and debilitating. Chronic pain can also be variable in presentation and can manifest as burning, stabbing or throbbing in nature. Chronic pain can affect a person's quality of life at home and work, and may prevent them from doing things they enjoy.

Fortunately, there are many ways to treat pain, and treatment varies depending on the cause of pain. If you are a sufferer of chronic pain, you are acutely aware of the difficulty of managing your symptoms without drugs and invasive procedures that can further serve to debilitate and reduce your quality of life. At Delmarva Chiropractic we are committed to identifying the source of your pain and applying the latest drug free and non-invasive techniques to help reduce - or in some cases - completely eliminate your pain.
